Position Description

Wediko Boston/The Home for Little Wanderers is seeking a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who will be responsible for the psychiatric treatment of adolescent and latency age clients within the Wediko Boston School-Based Program , for those who are not receiving external psychiatric treatment. This position is part-time, 20 hours per week.

How You’ll Be Making A Difference

The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for the psychiatric treatment of adolescent and latency age clients within the Wediko Boston School-Based Program, for those who are not receiving external psychiatric treatment. Responsibilities include evaluating the need for psychotropic medications and subsequently prescribing psychotropic medication.   This position is part-time, 20 hours per week.

  • Conduct initial, follow up and emergency psychiatric assessments of the clients assigned to them, including family input; utilizing culturally responsive practices and a trauma informed lens.
  • Collaborate actively with families concerning client treatment planning and monitoring.
  • Provide psychopharmacology assessments on an on-going basis and provide updates on the diagnostic treatment and psychopharmacology to appropriate parties.
  • Consult with McKinley school staff and Wediko clinicians weekly to discuss the psychiatric aspects of cases and participate in school meetings as needed.  Consult with school nurses, pediatricians, psychologists and others regarding treatment, medical issues, and medication of clients.
  • Provide education on psychiatric methods, diagnosis, and medical treatment to Wediko Boston and school staff.
  • Write psychiatric evaluations and documentation of meetings, monitor labs, and complete all appropriate paperwork in a timely, well written manner.
  • Maintain regular communication with Wediko Boston management team and program director.

Qualifications

  • Experience with psychiatric diagnosing and prescribing psychotropic medications to children and adolescents is required.
  • Possess and maintain graduate professional nurse, and nurse practitioner registration in the state of Massachusetts, which must be unrestricted, current, complete, and active.
  • Obtain Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or Mental Health Nurse Practitioner certification from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
