Job Description Summary

As a member of the Health Center team, the Nurse Practitioner provides confidential, evidence-based, high-quality, timely health care that is respectful to all individuals. Essential Duties

Clinical Care

  • Provide direct patient care to students including managing acute, recurrent and chronic health issues.

  • Conduct preventive health screenings including contraceptive guidance, STI testing and sexual and reproductive health counseling, including options counseling.

  • Triage patients with acute urgent medical situations promptly and refer as needed for appropriate emergency or follow up care.

  • Review all pertinent medical information in the patient's electronic health record.

  • Obtain a thorough health history, perform physical exams and order, obtain and review pertinent lab data.

  • Provide treatment recommendations and prescribe medications according to evidence-based guidelines and in accordance with the practice guidelines.

  • Document clinical encounters and relevant communication related to patient care in electronic health record (Medicat) in a timely manner.

  • Provide unbiased, evidence-based and support for students seeking PEP, PrEP and gender affirming health care.

  • Participate in professional development opportunities including weekly case discussion, relevant meetings on campus and health-related conferences.

  • Provide counseling and education to students to achieve and maintain optimal health.

  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with patients and families while providing culturally competent care.

  • Consult with the Director, Associate Director and clinical colleagues appropriately.

  • Partner with other departments on campus including the Counseling Center, Community Wellness and Health Promotion, University Police, Residential Center, Academic Services and Athletics for the optimum care of our students.

  • Assist in publicizing the Health Center as a resource on health-related issues to the Bentley community.

  • Participate in Student Affairs activities and committees.

  • Additional responsibilities as required.

 

Administrative Activities

  • Participate in activities related to the Health Center’s accredited status by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).

  • Contribute to the implementation of departmental, divisional and institutional goals broadly defined in Bentley’s strategic plan, Falcons Forward 2023.

  • Participate in student immunization compliance activities as needed.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Nursing.

  • Licensure to practice in Massachusetts as an Advanced Practice Nurse with board certification as an Adult or Family Nurse Practitioner with MCSR and DEA prescriptive authority.

  • BLS/CPR certification; current immunizations.

  • One to three years of experience in relevant clinical setting, including college health, primary care or urgent care.

  • Passion for college health and knowledge of student development.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience working with an adolescent/young adult population.

  • Experience with EMR's.

  • Excellent critical thinking and strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated interest and experience with promoting social justice and working with marginalized, under-represented and under-served groups.

  • Ability to anticipate and embrace change; demonstrate willingness to achieve, acquire, and utilize new skills and challenging tasks; and maintain a positive and flexible attitude in changing conditions.

 

Work Environment

  • Clinical exam room with computer and standard medical supplies.

  • Laboratory. Potential exposure to communicable diseases through direct contact and the handling of biological specimens and needles and syringes. Risk minimized by strict adherence to OSHA regulations and office procedures.

  • The position requires sitting, standing and walking; ability to assist a client to stand or walk.
