MCNP PAC Update and Call for Donations

Posted on 10/9/2014 in MCNP-PAC News

The first half of 2014 was a busy and productive time for the MCNP Political Action Committee (MCNP-PAC). Members of the MCNP-PAC attended and planned a number of political fundraisers and programs that raised the visibility of the MCNP and its health policy agenda. This work was guided by our outstanding lobbying team, Craven & Ober Policy Strategists, and carried out by many committed individuals including MCNP Officers and Executive board members, the MCNP Web editor and administrative assistant, and members of the MCNP Legislative Committee and the MCNP-PAC.

We are particularly grateful for the leadership, commitment and hard work of MCNP-PAC Co-chair, Jennifer Russell and want to thank her for her service as she steps down as the Co-chair of the MCNP- PAC. Jen has served as Co-Chair of the MNCP-PAC since May of 2013 and has enthusiastically approached the work. Her many strengths include her positive "can do attitude", her passion and conviction in her beliefs and the work of the MCNP, her ability to confidently and effectively interact with lawmakers, her work ethic and her warm personality. We are thrilled that she will be staying on as a member of the MCNP- PAC and will focus her efforts on fundraising.

We are delighted to welcome Amy Delaney, PNP as the new Co-Chair of the PAC. Amy has a long history with the MCNP and served as the Co-chair of the MCNP Legislative Committee several years ago before taking a break to start a family. She has been interested in the policy process and involved in local politics for many years. Her experience combined with her energy and fresh perspective will help to advance the work of the PAC as we prepare to re-file legislation in January 2015 that will remove unnecessary practice barriers.

We would also like to welcome Carol Connolly, Malinda Teague, and Maria Grotz who have joined Pat White, MCNP-PAC Treasurer and Sue Roberts, as Core MCNP-PAC members.

One of our more immediate priorities for the end of 2014 and early 2015 is to raise $10,000 to replenish funds that have been used to solidify relationships with key policy makers. We will once again have an ambitious legislative agenda and will need funds in the months ahead to insure that our message is heard.

There are currently over 7,000 NPs licensed to practice in Massachusetts. Of those 7,000, approximately 1,000 are active MCNP members. Please invite your colleagues who are not members to join the MCNP, and consider making a $10 contribution to the MCNP-PAC.Our goal is to have 100% member participation in this fundraising effort. We will surpass our goal if everyone contributes just $10. It is a small amount to pay with a great return on your investment.

We hope to see many of you at the MCNP Legislative Summit in Worcester on November 8, 2014.

Thank you in advance for your continued support.
