New Massachusetts Law Allows PCPs to Delegate Administration of Immunizations

Posted on 12/16/2016 in BORN, DPH & MassHealth Updates

Effective November 8, 2016, Chapter 234 of the Acts of 2016 created a new law that allows a primary care provider (PCP) acting within his or her designated scope of practice to delegate the administration of a patient immunization to a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) who meets specified qualifications.

The new law requires that the PCP must be present in the facility and immediately available to assist and direct the CMA, but the PCP does not need to be present in the room when the procedure is performed.
