2019 New England Regional Nurse Practitioner Conference Update

Posted on 5/3/2019 in MCNP News

MCNP held its annual education conference, the New England Regional Nurse Practitioner Conference, May 1-3, 2019 at the Boston Marriott Newton in Newton, MA.

This year, we welcomed more than 450 nurse practitioners from throughout Massachusetts and 12 other states!

Our pre-conference day featured a variety of professional and practice workshops and MCNP was pleased to partner with faculty from the Office-Based Addiction Treatment Team at Boston Medical Center, to offer the first 8 hours of MAT waiver training.

In our opening keynote address on Thursday morning, Alicia Ventura from the Office Based Addiction Treatment Program at Boston Medical Center spoke about family engagement in substance use disorder prevention, treatment and recovery.

Concurrent conference sessions featured a diverse faculty of nurse practitioner and physician expert speakers and covered relevant clinical topics in primary care, women’s health, pediatric and acute care as well as professional development topics.

On Thursday afternoon, MCNP held its annual business meeting with an operational overview by MCNP President Chris Malagrida which culminated with the elections for open officer positions.

Our Thursday evening reception provided participants an opportunity for networking and recognition of their colleagues with presentation of the annual MCNP awards.

The Conference Planning Committee added a closing keynote speaker to our conference agenda this year, and on Friday afternoon we were pleased to welcome renowned sports nutritionist, Nancy Clark, who provided an audience driven presentation on a variety of current “hot” nutrition topics relevant to NP practice.

MCNP is grateful to all of our volunteers who helped plan and promote the conference including the MCNP Education Committee (Chaired by Barbara Rosato with members Lisa Arello, Jennifer Dailey, Marion Growney, Karen Quinn),  MCNP Board members Christine Malagrida and Cathy McKinnon, and Director of Operations, Stacy Nahas.

MCNP also wishes to thank our countless exhibitors and conference organizer and co-sponsor, Boston College, and their  team including Jean Weyman, Assistant Dean of the Continuing Education Program, Maryanne Kirby, and Lisa Kaloostian.

And most importantly, MCNP thanks everyone who attended the conference and continues to support this annual event which is so important for our members and the organization.
