MCNP Files Legislation to Allow NPs to Determine Capacity and Invoke the Health Care Proxy

On January 20, 2023 the Massachusetts Coalition of Nurse Practitioners filed HD3903, An Act to Relative to Determining Capacity and Invoking the Health Care Proxy.*

This bill will give Nurse Practitioners legal authority to determine capacity regarding medical decision making and the ability to invoke the health care proxy. Currently, this authority is limited in statute to an “attending physician” and was not addressed in the legislation granting Full Practice Authority to Nurse Practitioners.

MCNP has the support of Representative Danielle Gregoire of Marlborough, who is our bill sponsor in the House.

In order to build additional support for our bill, it is important that we have the backing of as many House Co-Sponsors as possible.
