Celebrating 2024 National Nurse Practitioner Week

As we celebrate National Nurse Practitioner Week, I can think of no better theme for 2024 than Nurse Practitioners – At the Heart of Healthcare. This theme captures the essence of our practice and the values that define Nurse Practitioners: compassionate care, clinical excellence, and unwavering dedication to our patients.

NPs ensure that each patient is seen, heard, and cared for. It’s a commitment that I have seen throughout my career, from countless Nurse Practitioners.

These are the nurse practitioners who deliver exceptional care and give each patient the time they need no matter how busy or behind they are; the nurse practitioners who precept countless students without accolades or compensation; the nurse practitioners who spend hours on the phone with insurance companies to secure necessary services for their patients; the nurse practitioners who make calls after hours to check on patients who aren't doing well; and the nurse practitioners who make personal and financial sacrifices to open NP-owned practices to increase access in underserved areas. These and so many other nurse practitioners are the heart of health care and set us apart from other health care providers.

I hope that this week, every Nurse Practitioner feels valued, celebrated, and recognized for their profound contributions to the profession and the health and well-being of our communities.

To mark this special week, the Massachusetts Coalition of Nurse Practitioners is excited to celebrate with a range of activities. We’ll be offering membership discounts to welcome more NPs into our community, raffle prizes at our regional dinner meetings, and a membership raffle to thank our current members. We’re also thrilled to launch our new Ask the NP Expert CE Series on Thursday evening, November 14th, with a Free CE webinar on diabetes management.

Please take this week to reflect on all you have accomplished and the lives you touch each day.

As NPs, we hold a unique and essential role in healthcare, and it is our privilege to celebrate you.
